Choose one useful destination
The strongest destination is usually a portfolio, booking page, professional profile, contact landing page, or company website tailored to the person receiving the card.
Avoid linking to a generic homepage when a more useful mobile page exists.
Use a stable URL
Business cards may remain in drawers for years. Use a domain or profile URL you expect to keep and avoid temporary file-sharing links.
A static QR can remain useful indefinitely when the same URL continues to serve a maintained page.
Give the QR enough physical space
Around 2 cm is a reasonable lower starting point for many card designs, but the exact result depends on URL density and print quality.
Keep a clear quiet zone and avoid squeezing the code between contact details or trim edges.
Add a short reason to scan
A label such as “View portfolio,” “Book a call,” or “See current work” tells the recipient what value the QR provides.
Place the label outside the quiet zone and keep the overall card hierarchy calm.
Test the printed card
Export the design at production quality, print a proof on the final stock, and test with multiple phones. Matte finishes are generally easier than highly reflective coatings.
Keep the original SVG QR and approved URL with the card source files for future reprints.
